  • 60 Pounds of Dry Ice and a Swimming Pool!
    Nothing says "Scary!" around Halloween like throwing 60 pounds of dry ice in your swimming pool prior to your party guests arriving pool-side.  This 60lb. block was kicked into the spa and threw off white foggy smoke for a good while.  Not sure how it would affect the plaster or vinyl liner in your pool, but possibly someone will post more of a discussion of the "do's and dont's" surrounding dry-ice and it's affects on swimming pools?  Dive into the discussion!

    An orange county channel 7 news spot on swimming pool safety.  This video describes the importance of keeping a close eye on your children whenever they are pool-side.  Possible preventative measures include hiring a lifeguard for your childrens's pool party and/or assigning a parent at the part to assist in that regard.

  • ACID

    Liquid (muriatic acid) or dry granular (sodium bisulfate) substance used to lower the pool's pH (toward a more acidic condition) or to lower total alkalinity levels.

    A titration test used to determine proper amounts of acid (or pH decreaser) to reach correct levels.  For example, to lower pH from 8.0 to 7.6, your pool may "demand" 2qts. of acid.

  • Acid Washing
    Also called a drain & clean, an acid wash becomes necessary if the pool has turned into the "black lagoon". This may occur if the winterizing process is not done properly, or if the pool has been stagnant for a period of time so that algae has taken over. If you notice scaly, man-phibian creatures splashing around out back, it's probably time to drain & clean.
